Irony

Irony

Irony to me means, when the unexpected happens of what I was thinking was going to happen."I thought I would pass my exam, but ironically I didn't". Irony has happened to me once or twice in my life. For example "It was a rainy day ,in which i always slip in fall for some reason when it rains, But ironically I didn't. "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson was an example of irony in many ways. One way was "In fine, we thought he was everything to make us wish that we were in his place", Ironically he wasn't what they expected. That part of the poem was an example of Irony to me because, the people in the town believed that Richard Cory, was a rich and happy person, whom they wish they could be like. But the Irony of it was that, he wasn't happy. "And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,Went home and put a bullet through his head". This quote is the reason why I believe that Richard Cory wasn't happy. Because why would rich and happy person kill himself , only if they weren't satisfied with there life and wasn't happy just being rich. "The Necklace" by GUY de MAUPASSANT included a version of Irony in some ways. "Instead of being delighted, as her-husband hoped, she flung the invitation petulantly across the table, murmuring". The husband tried to do something nice for his wife, and she does not appreciate it because she has no wealthy looking dresses or jewels to complete her look. Although the wife, Mathilde, wasn't so happy about going to the dance, do to no jewels or suitable dress. So to please her, he uses his savings to go buy her a nice dress to wear to the dance. "Nevertheless he said. "Very well. I'll give you four hundred francs. But try and get a really nice dress with the money". Ironically she still wasn't happy. She was still upset because she didn't have any jewels to complete her look. "I'm utterly miserable at not having any jewels, not a single stone, to wear," she replied. "I shall look like distress. I would almost rather not go to the party". Ironically, he thought of another way to make his wife happy. "Go and see Madame Forestier and ask her to lend you some jewels". And just like her husband said, she went to madame Forestier and she was helpful and lend her diamond necklace. She ends up loosing the necklace, in which she was afraid would happen. Now she and her husband thinks of ways to replace the expensive necklace. "You remember the diamond necklace you lent me for the ball at the Ministry?" After years of paying off her debt. She runs into Madame Forestier, and come to find out, the necklace was not nearly, what she had thought. "Oh, my poor Mathilde! But mine was imitation. It was worth at the very most five hundred francs"! While In a shop at the Palais-Royal they found a string of diamonds which seemed to them exactly like the one they were looking for. It was worth forty thousand francs. They were allowed to have it for thirty-six thousand. How ironic is that? The House That Slaves Built BY Gardiner Harris, Very strange in most of all Ironic. It was ironic because the story discusses how black people weren't allowed in the White House and it was built by black slaves. "Well into the 20th century, it was considered taboo to invite blacks to a meal at the White House". What makes the story so ironic, is that today's White House is run by a black President Barack Obama. Who would of think over 200 years later a black family would be making a change for the world. Which would hopefully make people realize that a change can occur, and it did! "Barack Obama's family making the White House their home is a powerful symbol of change for Americans of all races".

The image I picked is ironic because, a computer truck and a coffee truck have crashed! in what does a computer often does, "crash"! Irony to me can often be a big humor, but it also can be for the worst of a situation. While reading The Necklace BY GUY de MAUPASSANT, showed me how simple an everyday activity can be an example of Irony.
